#79 – Race for the Cure

Enter one of our charity walks, Race for the Cure, Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend.

Sometimes, bowing to peer pressure is not all bad.  I’m not saying you should jump off the bridge with your friends, or get married in Vegas just because two other guys did it, but there are occasionally positives.  Such was the case on Mother’s Day weekend, 2009, when I was talked into Racing for the Cure in Ottumwa.

See the Veterans Memorial in Ottumwa Park, the Eagle in Central Park, sculptures at Woodland and HWY 63, water horse trough at the Amtrak Station, 210 W. Main, Ottumwa.

Much like the Big Blue Bridge, pictures = thousand words.

Sure, everyone says they like long romantic walks on the beach, but when you live in landlocked Iowa, sometimes you have to improvise.

So perhaps a walk along the river – conveniently located near the water treatment plant – will suffice?

Photograph the night skyline, and the beautiful blue bridge, the Jefferson Street Viaduct, Ottumwa.

#18 – Walking the Cemetery

Take a self guided walking tour of the Ottumwa Cemetery, 1302 N. Court, brochure available at the Chamber on 217 East Main Street.

Something seems a little morose about touring a cemetery, even in famous cases like this, this, or this. That being said, it is on the list, so I am obligated to give this one a try.
